Desiree Browne is a Brooklyn-based narrative nonfiction writer. Her culture reporting has appeared in The Village Voice, New York Observer, The Awl, MarieClaire.com and other outlets. She was a 2025 Tin House Fellow (now McCormack Writing Center), 2023 Roots. Wounds. Words. Winter Writers’ Retreat for Storytellers of Color and a 2021 Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing Voices of Color fellow. Her personal essays have been published in “Midnight & Indigo” and Gotham Writers Workshop’s Razor magazine. Most recently, her essay “A Browne Never Quits” appeared in “Pretty Little Brick: Rituals of Rage, Safety & Pleasure”, an experimental anthology from The Free Black Women’s Library, featuring New York City-based Black women+ writers.
